Tuscany Things to do in Florence

Featured Story
Things to do in Florence, Italy

Florence is an impressive and city of timeless beauty. Art is everywhere you look from the buildings to the streets to the gorgeous churches. Florence also is known as the “City of Stone,” and you can see that reflected in many places from the very sidewalks beneath your feet to the architecture all around. A visit to this amazing city will allow you to view priceless pieces of art, eat food that is fit for gods and spend the days in a city where many flock to gaze upon its beautiful sights.

Known as the Renaissance capital, Florence is noted for the masterpiece David by Michelangelo. This 17-foot statue is a true gem and is synonymous with the city’s artistic background. This is just one reason that many of the things to do in Florence are centered on art. However, nearly all things are elevated into an art form here – from food to wine to shopping. While there are literally hundreds of things to explore and do, here’s a look at many of the great things to do in Florence:

A popular way to learn about the amazing food of Tuscany is to dive right in and learn how to prepare it. This is a great way to help take a piece of Tuscany back home with you and will impress your family and friends. One popular option is the Giglio Cooking Day Course, located at Via del Ghirlandaio, 6 50121, Florence, Italy; phone 055 614 5914. A typical day here starts with a morning of cooking as guided by an expert. You’ll cap that off with a wonderful lunch that the group prepares together. There are thousands of recipes to select here – many classic Tuscan dishes that you aren’t likely to see on most menus. Of course, if you veer toward more traditional – this is also an amazing way to learn how to make the classic ravioli. This could be an amazing way to relive your trip to Tuscany again and again when you recreate your new favorites at home.

Tuscany is filled with culture, and that makes it no surprise that heading to the opera also makes the top list of favorite things to do in Florence. You may consider checking out the opera at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, located at Via Maggio, Florence, Italy; phone 1-800-877-1755. This is an excellent place for opera devotees and those new to the art form to check out the show. Many report that they are surprised at how much they actually enjoyed this opera.

One lovely aspect is the cozy church atmosphere. The church is quite old and has an intimate setting. Take note that the church can sometimes become warm when the house is full, so think of wearing layers to remain comfortable. However, don’t be surprised if the opera makes you hot for more!

If you are looking for an amazing view of the city, a great thing to check out is Piazzale Michelangelo, located at Viale Michelangelo, 50100, Florence, Italy. This is a famed and wonderful square that showcases an amazing view of Florence. It’s located in the Oltrarno district of Florence and is popular with many tourists. The view is one often seen on postcards and in depictions of this gorgeous city. The square dates back to 1869 and is on a hill south of the city’s historic center. The square is dedicated to the famous Michelangelo, creator of the David. There are many copies of Michelangelo works in the square that are copies of originals you can see elsewhere in Florence. You can see the David, the four allegories of the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo and others. The copies are cast in bronze, while the originals were created in white marble.

You can reach the Piazzale Michelangelo in a car if you take the Viale Michelangelo or you can walk up the stairs that go up the ramps of the Piazza Poggi Poggi, which is located in the district of San Niccolò. You also can take bus number 13 to reach it. Regardless of how you get there, do get there. It’s one must-see on any trip to Florence.
