The record for tourism in Florence just keeps getting better and better.

New local figures say that new records are being hit when it comes to tourism in Florence. In fact, in 2011 the Florence province proved especially popular. Tourists flocked here for the amazing culture and the beautiful art showcased in the region. Visitors came from all over the globe to visit Florence in 2011.

The number of visitors tallied up a total of 12 million hotel rooms across Florence alone during the 12 months of 2011. That was an increase of 8.4 percent from the number of hotel rooms booked out in Florence in 2010. In the city, about 8 million hotel rooms were filled; that’s an annual increase over the figures seen in 2010 of 7.1 percent.

With certainty, the magnet that is Florence had untold economic impacts on Italy and the region of Tuscany. Visitors who come to Florence not only stay in hotel rooms, but they also eat in restaurants, shop in various places and also travel outside of the city on day trips to neighboring areas.

These new figures prove that Florence remains a top spot across the globe - even as some parts of the world continue to struggle from an economic perspective. Tourists want to spend the money in Florence - making it a top attraction and benefit to Italy.
